a dream written down gives the brain something to work on
Bob Knight said, "Everyone has the will to win, but few have the will to prepare." Here's my view on variations between the words dreams, wishes, and goals. A Dream: To me a dream is something bigger than a wish or a goal. A dream is a stretch for you mind. You can't see you way easily, but the desire is strong. You have the fire in your belly for this dream. This is something you believe would make your future a better place.
A Wish: A wish is something like a dream, but a wish has less passion. You wouldn't mind as much if it doesn't happen. Matter of fact you probably have a sense that there's no real change for it to happen. The scale of a wish is usually smaller than a dream. I think it's healthy to have both, but I would focus on dreams.
A Goal: Goals are specific, measurable, achievable, and timed, SMART. A goal is point up the mountain of a dream. The point doesn't have to be that close, but it is a point that you have some idea of how to get to. The more specific the goal that better. You'll need some way to measure you progress. I've read it's best to revisit you progress more often than every 8 weeks, and I would also find milestone to accomplish if the time frame is going to be longer than 2 months. |
